Jemmillion: Thank you for the opportunity to interview you. Previously, you told me that when you first got involved in the fighting game scene, instead of going to grad school, you decided to start writing about video games on various gaming websites. What inspired you to become involved in the fighting game community?

Isaac Torres (Delriach): Fighting games have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I would go on school trips to places like Enchanted Castle and Haunted Trails just to play Tekken. Jemmillion: Thank you for the opportunity to interview you, and for the constant support you’ve shown me over this past year. Obviously, you’ve dedicated a good portion of your life to the fighting game community. How long have you been playing video games? What was the first fighting game that you ever played?

I was just a toddler so he bought it at least as much for himself as for me, but I played with him a bunch and was hooked for life! The first fighting game I played was Street Fighter II. I didn’t get to the arcades much, but I got it on SNES as soon as I could. Read More

Jemmillion: How long have you been playing fighting games?

Shock: The first fighting game I ever played, technically, was Karate Champ Vs Edition, which came out way back in 1984, but I will say I probably didn’t play it until 1985 or ’86. Some people in the community don’t think I’m OG. OG that. Karate Champ. TWO joysticks, per player. So in the most technical sense, pretty close to 30 years. I grew up around arcades or places with arcade games, like malls, casinos, diners, boardwalks, pizzerias, video stores, etc. I was always exposed to the newest games, therefore the advent of games like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat. Although, I don’t remember seeing the original Street Fighter until many years later. read more
